Academic Dismissal and Readmission

3360.1 General Policy

A student on probation who fails to achieve a cumulative 2.0 GPA or above in his/her subsequent term of enrollment will be eligible for dismissal.

Dismissal action is taken by the dean of the college or school to which the students are assigned, in consultation with the head of the respective program unit or the academic advisor. In taking dismissal action, the academic officer will generally consider the student's progress toward meeting degree requirements, as well as overall academic performance.

Notice of dismissal from the university will be sent directly to the student by the dean or his or her designee of the college, school, or division to which that student is assigned.

3360.2 Dismissal from the University

3360.3 Readmission to the University

Dismissed students in approved joint enrollment programs between Wright State and a community college will be readmitted when the requirements specified in the agreement are successfully attained by the student.

Otherwise, students who have been dismissed will not be permitted to enroll for any courses at the university for a full calendar year (three consecutive semesters, including summer semester). Readmission is not automatic. After a period of dismissal, students must submit an application and petition for readmission. Readmission petition forms may be obtained from, and must be submitted through, the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. Readmission petitions are reviewed by the Office of Undergraduate Admissions in consultation with the dean of the appropriate college or school. Readmitted students are continued on probation. Students who are readmitted following academic dismissal may be subject to special requirements to remove academic deficiencies as determined appropriate by the college or school. All readmitted students, including those readmitted under the “Fresh Start” and “Second Start” policies, are subject to the catalog in force at the time of readmission and must meet degree requirements in effect at the time of readmission.
