Advertising
12120.1 Purpose
The following policy and procedures for the approval of the production and placement of advertising have been established to maintain a level of quality that is consistent with the overall image of the university and conforms to its marketing goals.
12120.2 General Policy
No member of the university community may produce an advertisement (including print, TV, radio, or billboard; excluding non-display classified advertising and event advertising for the Ervin J. Nutter Center) promoting Wright State University or its programs or events for distribution to external audiences (off campus) without consulting with the Office of Communications and Marketing.
12120.3 Responsibility
Responsibility for executing the university’s marketing efforts and for maintaining the university’s identity program rests with the Office of Communications and Marketing.
- All advertising must conform to the university’s institutional identity standards [refer to University Policy 12120 (Institutional Identity Program and Publications)].
- All advertising must conform to the university marketing plan.
- Concept development, writing, editing, graphic design, and production must be handled through designated personnel in the Office of Communications and Marketing.
- A request for acquisition of outside services for the production of an advertisement will not be placed by the Purchasing department with an external contractor, nor will invoices be honored for payment by Accounts Payable in the Office of the Controller without the authorization of the Office of Communications and Marketing [refer to University Policy 9320 (Purchasing from External Vendors)].
12120.4 Procedures
Wright State University faculty and staff who wish to produce and place an advertisement intended for an external audience must contact the Office of Communications and Marketing when beginning a project. Communications and Marketing will produce all such advertising or will supervise and review its production.
12120.5 Policy Review
To ensure consistency with the Wright State University marketing plan and the Institutional Identity Program, external university advertising must be reviewed and approved by the Office of Communications and Marketing. The purpose of the review process is to ensure that projects support the overall marketing program, accurately represent the university, and maintain a level of quality consistent with the image of Wright State University.
